The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has launched a recordation database system to help curb the influx of counterfeits.
Local manufacturers will now be required to record their Intellectual Property through the system in efforts by the government to improve local production and domestic investment.
From next year, all local manufacturers and importers of goods manufactured outside Kenya will be required to record their Intellectual property through a database system.
A multi-agency team will access the database for search and seizure operations. Alcoholic drinks and pharmaceuticals were reported to be the most affected sectors in the war against counterfeits.
Owners of registered trademarks, copyrights, and marks have been challenged to take action against those counterfeiting their products for streamlined and effective enforcement measures in combating the same.
