Safaricom has released an early access standalone M-Pesa app on the Google Playstore which brings a bunch of new features and as usual, free data when you install and log in to the app.
The new app just named M-PESA, has so far been downloaded registered over 10,000 downloads since being published.
Immediately you open the app, you are bombarded with data and numbers. Your Mpesa balances, Fuliza, recent transactions, and more data like how much money you have used on M-Pesa that month (This is bound to give you restless days after a weekend out). All this presented in a beautiful user interface.
Safaricom says the new M-PESA App makes it easier to transact on M-PESA by enabling you to view your M-PESA balance on the home screen, Favorites lets you save your most frequently used features so that they’re just a click away. Frequently used contacts and till numbers are automatically displayed so that you can quickly find them to send money or make payments.
The app also supports biometrics for security to your wallet. You can log in to the myM-PESA app conveniently and authenticate payments by scanning your fingerprint or face ID.
According to tech-ish.com, the app will also let users verify the identity of the people they’re sending money to by showing profile pictures. This is provided a user has signed up to the app and set a picture.
With the new app, you can easily send money by scanning a QR code, searching your phonebook, or selecting from your frequent M-PESA contacts. You can also add contacts to your favorites list so you don’t have to search every time.
You can also pay your bills and buy goods and services easier by selecting from the popular M-PESA bills, scanning a QR code, or by selecting from one of your favorite or frequent bills and frequently used tills.
The new M-Pesa app introduces a new payment service that allows customers to pay small businesses for their goods and services dubbed “Pay to Phone Number”
You can also withdraw money from your M-PESA at any agent or at selected bank ATMs and buy airtime conveniently for yourself, friends, and family on the app.
The app seems to be missing loan services like M-Shwari and KCB M-PESA but as it is still in development, a lot of new features and changes may become available in the final build.
