Exit Cortana, enter Spotify’s native in-app virtual assistant which comes alive after users wake it up with a hands-free wake word ‘hey Spotify’.
The Swedish audio streaming and media services provider just launched in Kenya meaning the new voice-enabled wake word feature is also currently rolling out to users in the country. The feature allows users to control the player by streaming music from an artist, an album, or simply a song.
Along with the mobile apps for iOS and Android, the feature is also reportedly available on compatible smart speakers.
How to enable the ‘hey Spotify’ feature
First spotted by GSM Arena, this hands-free wake word feature can be enabled in a few simple steps:
- Tap the Settings icon on the Spotify homepage.
- Click on “Voice Interactions.
- Click on the “Hey Spotify” toggle to turn it on.
We recently compared Spotify, the biggest premium music streaming service in the world with over 140 million paid users to Deezer, a smaller platform with its subscriber base of less than 10 million which was already available to determine which is better, read more on that here.
