Instagram comments on your photos or videos can be positive and fun to read, and oftentimes they are uplifting. But what if for some reason they are not and you want to avoid negativity by disabling the comments?
Instagram allows you to hide current comments and prevent new ones. While it would be nice if Instagram allowed users to turn off comments across the board, that isn’t the case. Instead, you’ll have to disable comments on a post-by-post basis.
How to Turn Off Comments Before Posting
Right before you post a photo or video to your main page, you can disable the comments. After you’ve chosen what you want to post and select the filter you want to use (if any at all), you’ll get to the final share post page. On the very bottom, tap the Advanced Settings. Then toggle Turn Off Commenting and hit the back button. Then tap the Share button.
You can choose to reenable comments at any time by tapping the menu button in the top-right corner of the post and selecting Turn on Commenting. You can also choose to restrict comments to just your followers or the people you follow.
