In a press release yesterday, India announced a huge ban on major apps developed in China including the massively popular TikTok social network amid a bigger feud between India and China.
India’s Ministry of Information Technology announced that the apps in question “are engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, the security of the state and public order.”
59 different apps are affected in total, with some huge names on the list. Tiktok and WeChat are the most notable inclusions as are Xiaomi’s Mi Community and Mi Video Call apps
TikTok has so far been removed from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in India. The company released an official statement about its ban.
