Popular artist and songwriter Nyamari Ongegu who goes by the stage name Nyashinski has allegedly been appointed as the new Samsung’s brand ambassador.

“Samsung is committed to deepening our partnership with local talent. In our eyes, Nyashinski has time and time again, personified our brand ethos – Do What You Can’t. He is an artist with a purpose and a musician who brings people joy, which is why Samsung is proud to be associated with him,” said Charles Kimari, Head of Mobile at Samsung Kenya.

Speaking during his unveiling, the singer revealed that he was happy to work with the tech-giant, saying that it is an honor to work with a company that challenges him.

“I look forward to connecting my fans with technology that makes life better in new ways. Any brand that challenges you to do what you can’t and gives you the tools to do it is a brand I believe in,” the Mungu Pekee artist stated.

Samsung has been focusing on the Kenyan market, dominating with their midrange Android devices over their more premium alternatives. This has also reflected internationally as the giant smartphone maker reported that the midrange Galaxy A51 was the bestselling Android phone in the first three months of the year in the world.

Samsung and Xiaomi’s midrange phones dominated Android bestsellers list in Q1 2020.

“As mobile operators have reduced subsidies in recent years, and many countries are now tumbling into post-virus recession, smartphone consumers globally are becoming increasingly price-sensitive,” Strategy Analytics Associate Director Juha Winter explains, “Consumers want value-for-money devices with good-enough specs at affordable prices. Android is entering a post-premium era.”
