Chinese consumer electronics and mobile communications company OPPO today (4th August 2021) announced its next-generation under-screen camera technology for smartphones. The company said that it combined the best in hardware innovation with its proprietary AI algorithms for the new camera tech, which aims to offer a full-screen experience in upcoming devices.

According to OPPO, the under-screen camera solution will be able to maintain the integrity and consistency of the entire screen even when the camera is in use or in standby. Through this, it would be capable of a balance between consistent screen and camera image quality, or “an under-screen camera solution with no compromises.”

Unlike earlier approaches that reduce pixel density in the portion of the screen that covers the camera in order to let more light pass through, Oppo will use smaller pixels to maintain the same 400-PPI sharpness as the rest of the OLED panel.
