pes efootball

Konami has officially renamed the Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series to “eFootball”, and made it free-to-play and digital-only on all platforms including iOS and Android.

The drastic change now means that the game will no longer get any more paid annual releases.

The game which will be completely free-to-play is developed in Unreal Engine 4, another franchise first. The trailer below shows off a brief snippet of gameplay:

eFootball will launch worldwide first on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and Windows 10 and PC via Steam, with iOS and Android to follow soon after.

Konami says eFootball is “an all-new football simulation platform,” rather than an iteration and rebranding of PES adding that the game will get free yearly updates for new seasons.

Konami says it plans to sell “certain game modes […] as optional DLC,” which likely means a buy-in for the game’s career suite, that is if the free-to-play component will mirror the old PES’ Master League mode.
