Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp is now the world’s No. 2 smartphone maker according to a report by market research firm Canalys finally dethroning United States manufacturer Apple Inc.
Overtaking Apple Inc in the second quarter of 2021, Xiaomi took the second spot for the first time with a 17pc share of worldwide smartphone shipments, up from 14pc the previous quarter
According to the research firm. Global smartphone shipments grew 12pc in the second quarter, led by Samsung Electronics with a 19pc share, and Apple at third place with a 14pc share.
The report puts Xiaomi’s average selling price of their smartphones at about 40 and 75pc cheaper compared to Samsung and Apple respectively.
The company’s shipments jumped more than 300pc in Latin America, 150pc in Africa, and 50pc in Western Europe, the report said.
If Xiaomi continues to grow at this pace, it may very well overtake Samsung and become the world’s No.1 smartphone vendor in due course, if the US Government doesn’t interfere of course.
