Telegram, my favorite messaging app, is celebrating its 10th anniversary today. In just a decade, Telegram has grown to over 800 million active users, all thanks to word-of-mouth.
Telegram was founded by Pavel Durov, who also founded the social networking site VKontakte. Durov left VKontakte in 2014 after a dispute with the company’s investors. He founded Telegram to create a messaging app that was secure, fast, and user-friendly.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Telegram is introducing a new feature called stories. Telegram stories are ephemeral content that disappears after 24 hours like in other services, but users can also choose to make them disappear within 6, 12, or 48 hours.
This makes them a great way to share photos, videos, or text updates that you don’t want to clutter up your chat history. The app had introduced this feature but only for premium users, until today.
Stories are available to all Telegram users now. To create a story, simply tap on the “New Story” button in the chat composer. You can then add photos, videos, or text to your story. When you’re finished, tap on the “Post” button.
Telegram has been praised for its security features. The app uses end-to-end encryption, which means that messages can only be read by the sender and recipient. Telegram also offers a self-destruct timer for messages, so that they can be deleted after a certain period of time.
“Today’s gradual roll-out of stories for all users marks the beginning of this new stage in the history of Telegram. While this past decade was exciting, the next 10 years will be the time when Telegram reaches its true potential.” Durov posted.

Telegram is also known for its speed. The app uses a distributed network of servers to deliver messages quickly and reliably. This makes Telegram ideal for sending large files or videos.
Telegram has several features that make it stand out from other messaging apps. For example, Telegram allows users to create channels, which are public groups that can be followed by anyone. Channels are a great way to share news, information, or entertainment with a large audience.
Telegram also offers several privacy features that allow users to control who can see their messages. For example, users can choose to make their messages visible only to specific contacts or groups.
Here are some of the critical features of Telegram that have made it so popular:
- End-to-end encryption: Telegram messages are encrypted from end to end, meaning only the sender and recipient can read them. This makes Telegram a secure choice for sending sensitive information.
- Speed: Telegram is known for its fast performance. Messages are delivered quickly and reliably, even over slow connections.
- Features: Telegram offer several features that make it a powerful messaging app. These features include channels, groups, voice calls, video calls, and file sharing.
- Customization: Telegram allows users to customize the app to their liking. This includes changing the theme, font, and notification settings.
- Privacy: Telegram offers several privacy features that allow users to control who can see their messages. These features include secret chats, self-destruct timers, and contact lists.
