Almost everyone is always watching a TikTok video on their phone when we hang out, this has led to the Chinese video-sharing platform to lead as the world’s most downloaded app in the month of October 2021
TikTok app downloads were more than 57 million, Sensor Tower’s Store Intelligence platform data showed. The most downloads of TikTok were from Douyin in China at 17 percent and the United States (US) with 11 percent. Facebook-owned Instagram came in 2nd.
This makes TikTok the most popular non-gaming app for more than 10 months now, in fact, back in August, it was named as the most downloaded app of 2020. The Chinese video-sharing platform is the only non-Facebook app to mark its presence in the top five downloads list worldwide.
Instagram was first runners up in the list of most downloads worldwide with more than 56 million installs, which is a 31pc increase since the previous month. The countries which had the most downloads included India with 39pc, followed by Brazil with 6pc.
However, Instagram topped the Google Play Downloads worldwide, where TikTok stood at spot 3.
Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram found their place in the top 5 downloaded non-game list of October 2021, besides TikTok and Instagram. Snapchat, Messenger, Shopping app – Meesho, Spotif,y and video editor – CapCut also made it to the list of top 10.
According to the Sensor Tower and MAAS data, shopping apps reached 113 million downloads in October 2021, the first time since October 2020 when the category had reached its threshold. Shopping app, Meesho, which secured the eighth spot in the top 10 list of apps by overall downloads, contributed more than 12 million downloads.
