The internet is abuzz with mixed reactions after the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommended a vaginal ring that can prevent the contracting of HIV and pregnancy, to be added as a prevention choice for women who are substantially at risk of the virus.
How the Vaginal Ring Works
The ring which is made of silicone is set near the cervix in the vagina where it releases an antiretroviral called dapivirine at the sight of potential infections and blocks the virus.
The ring is changed every month and wouldn’t need to be removed during menstruation or sexual intercourse, as it cannot be felt.

I hope it's actually true and real… And not just a way of making money for the research institute that made it cos WHO is becoming political and useless nowadays.

Not sure about how to feel about this😕 Seemingly good news but what happens when you already have an IUD birth control inside? What are the side effects of the dapivirine vaginal ring (DPV-VR)? Our vagina have suffered while Idle Penises aimlessly shoot all kind of diseases. https://t.co/wr8iH9zak6

But the other implications are problematic.
1. I worry that knowledge of this device will embolden harmful sexual behavior, yet I don't know how easily accessible this device will actually be.

That burden will take many forms, including financial, emotional, psychological and perhaps even physical (I haven't read the studies to understand the longterm effects of having this in the body; it's not the same as a hormonal contraceptive after all).

3. Some of the survey responses were VERY troubling. You can basically forget about any notion of any woman being able to hide this from her partner if she's in a toxic situation.
So yeah, I truly love the innovation and empowerment but… I'm seriously worried. 😔
