Youtube, Inc. has recorded a 75% jump in views in recent weeks compared to the same time last year. This is due to millions of people turning to the Google-owned video site for updates on the Coronavirus
YouTube is part of Alphabet Inc.’s Google and normally it records more than two billion viewers a month and has had a significant traffic surge since the pandemic started. One of the largest upswings went to videos the company classifies as “news”.
“People are trying to consume as much information [as possible] around this crisis,” chief product officer Neal Mohan says. “It’s top of mind for everybody.”
Mohan also says YouTube is working day and night to remove “thousands” of coronavirus-related videos for violating its policies against harmful misinformation.
