Safaricom had the fastest Speed Score among mobile providers in Kenya during Q1 2022 with a median download speed of 20.49 Mbps as the top mobile Consistency Score (79.8%) a report has concluded.

The report by Ookla dubbed “Q1 Market Report on the state of Kenya’s mobile and fixed networks” ranked Mombasa the fastest in mean mobile download speed at 18.71 Mbps followed by Nairobi at 16.90 Mbps, Kisumu at 14.57, Eldoret and Nakuru at 13.05Mbps respectively.

For fixed broadband, Faiba had the highest Speed Score with a median download speed of 24.64 Mbps and the highest Consistency Score in Kenya during Q1 2022, with 49.8% of results showing at least a 25 Mbps minimum download speed and 3 Mbps minimum upload speed.

Taking the runner-up spot was AccessKenya with a speed score of 8.70 and a consistency score of 17.7%. Telkom had a better consistency score of 20.4% but only managed to come 4th in terms of speed (7.42).

Mombasa showed the fastest median download speed over fixed broadband among Kenya’s most populous cities during Q1 2022 at 13.97 Mbps.

An analysis of performance on some of the fastest phones in Kenya found that there was no statistical winner during Q1 2022.
